Baofeng Radio
I was asked by several of the guys during the Rendezvous about info on the
Baofeng Dual-Band radio that I purchased for $49 shipped.  So many asked I
figure the easiest way is to ask you to send to your distribution list please.

Thanks  Lloyd KO4L

I have been able to contact a US seller and here is his email back to me about a
discount on the radio including free shipping.  (SEE BELOW)

The Baofeng Radio is a nice unit, but I there are many models that are the same
radio inside and all are Part 90 certified, but not all are shipped to the US with the
Part 90 certification label.  So make sure that you ask the vendor if the radio will
be shipped with the Part 90 label IF you will be using the radio in the Public Safety
Bands...okay?  You've been warned...

Radio Specs are below....

Baofeng UV-5A is the model "I" have BUT there are several different models with
different ending 'letters'  AKA  5a, 5b,5e 5a+ etc....  Like I said I have the 5A
model...the software to program is the same.

There are higher capacity batteries available BUT make sure it will fit your model.
The cases are slightly different shapes on the different models (It appears from
the factory discussions, that the only difference in the model letters is the case.)  I
am attaching a link that shows the different models as of today BUT I did not
order my radio from the company on the attached page with the various models..
Here is the model page -->

I ordered my unit from Amazon BUT I highly recommend that you go to
http://www.threeoldcrowgeneralstore.com and talk to Kurt about ordering your
unit and the Part 90 sticker (he may have all his stickered for Part 90 by now)  He
is a very helpful goy and I'm sure he will treat you right.

Now I've heard about another Baofeng that allow a Part 90 user to 'lock out' the
menu and VFO/Mem buttons which will totally prevent unauthorized users from
being able to change freqs at will but will allow them to change to only
programmed freqs that they are allowed to use.  Since I need this feature for my
wildland firefighters and CERT team in South Carolina, I am VERY interested in
this feature.... I have asked Kurt if he knows anything (he orders factory direct)
and can he get them but I asked Saturday while we were at the Rendesvouz....He
has not had time to respond to me yet.

Hey If you have a question, email me or call me 843-601-1481

guaranteed to be frustrated.

We welcome all members, please review this list before membership.

1. You should read the new user tutorial and FAQ below.
2. The USB cable and software can be tricky. Read the tutorial and FAQ.
3. Your other questions are likely answered there, so please look first.
4. Be kind to your fellow list members.
5. PLEASE also no discussion of LEGALITY of this radio for FRS, GMRS, etc
operation and FCC part acceptance for part 95 etc. This radio is NOT approved for
that use, but it is USA legal for commercial. amateur band and any use as a
receiver. Old, very stale topic.
6. DON'T FEED THE TROLLS who bring up these topics. Just ignore it.

Hi Lloyd,

Yes, I can provide UV-5R'a with teh Part 90 identifivation labels and all of my
incomint stock of UV-5R's will have them bu default. The Part 90 id labels are not
available for any of the variants Aat this time though. I am told they will be
available at some time but they will not state a date.

If you tell the public safety folks to login to the web site and then send me an
email before ordering, I will set them up with a 'First Respondrr' discount. It isn't
great, but it will save them some dollars and allow multiple unit orders to get
additional savings.

UV-5R Regular $48.95

EMS - First Responder pricing:

1 e a  - $47.50
2 ea   - $46.00
5 ea   - $44.50
10 ea - $43.25
25 ea - $42.00

All prices are delivered.

The version that has the lock-out is a custom development version and as such is
not available to anyone else at this time. The exclusive will expire at some time
and at that point I will be able to get them, but not now.
